Making Photos Last
Monday, January 21st, 2013 by Reed Hoffmann
In the old days, photographers worried about keeping track of their pictures and how long they would last. Both film and prints deteriorate over time. With digital that’s no longer a worry – digital files can last forever, since they’re just numbers. The trick is keeping track of them and making new copies as storage technology changes.

Resuscitating Old Photos
Wednesday, July 18th, 2012 by Reed Hoffmann
Copying my old family pictures reminded me of a photo restoration I did for a friend. They can be surprisingly easy to do with the right tools, and many old photos need this sort of help. Especially if you want to make a nice print from one.

Birthday Poster
Friday, November 25th, 2011 by Reed Hoffmann
My wife Sharon had a birthday this past weekend (can't tell you her age, but it rhymes with "nifty") and celebrated with a big party. One of my gifts was a poster of photos of her over those years, which was a big hit at the party. This can be pretty easy, if you just follow a few simple steps.

Filter Fun
Thursday, July 14th, 2011 by Reed Hoffmann
When I got started in photography, one of my first accessories was a cross-star filter. It created a cool effect on night shots, and believe me, I needed all the help I could get. Monitors Changing for the Better
Wednesday, November 10th, 2010 by Reed Hoffmann
One of the challenges of color management the past few years has been the brightness of LCD monitors. Most people like them bright and contrasty, and the manufacturers have heard their wishes and complied. For those of us serious about color management, that's created a problem.

Pixels are Cheap
Monday, October 18th, 2010 by Reed Hoffmann
I've always been one to shoot a lot of pictures. Maybe I'm insecure, or just love hearing that click. Lately I've been shooting more than ever, and that's changing my workflow.

Perfect Portable Laptop
Wednesday, September 8th, 2010 by Reed Hoffmann
We're lucky to live in a time when we have lots of choices. Of course that makes for lots of decisions, which can get complicated. I need different computers for different uses, and have spent the last few years working through some of those options. I already wrote about the tiny, inexpensive netbook I bought for occasional trips where weight is at a premium and I don't need power. Now I want to talk about a very compact, very powerful computer that I'm going to use when traveling and I need to get real work done.
